There is obviously more to the South Indian healthy dish idly than just being called the most favourite breakfast. Andhraites all over the world love to incorporate idly in their everyday lives. A perfectly apt diet for mornings, idly can be also eaten fried. Now, the fried idly is not the work of the weak. This recipe is more for the food lovers who do not mind a bit of oily and sassy for their taste buds.

Fried Idly is fondly eaten as an evening snack, emergency preparation when nothing else is at your disposal except those left over idlies from the morning. You will be amazed as to what this snack can do along with a cup of tea or while with a group of friends who have suddenly come over.

Fried Idly – Recipe
Idly: 5-6 nos (each cut into 4 pieces)
Chili powder: 1tsp
Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
Salt: a pinch
Oil: enough for shallow frying
Curry leaves: 2 sprigs

Mix chili powder, turmeric powder and salt with 2 tsps of water to make a thick paste. Marinate Idly pieces with the spice paste and set aside for 15-20 min.

Heat enough oil for deep fry in a deep non-stick pan, and fry the idly pieces for 4-5 min or till they are golden brown and crispy. In the left over oil, fry the curry leaves for the garnish.

Serve them hot with spicy chutney or eat plain. It’s amazing. Enjoy
