Addressing the frequent complaints coming from the devotees about the weight accuracy of Tirumala Laddus sold at the counters, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams are set to introduce barcoded Laddu trays to check the exact weight.
The bar codes will now be assigned to all the Laddu trays before they are moved from the Temple kitchen to the sale counters. The demand for Tirumala Laddus is ever growing, and the current production of three lakh volume every day is trying to meet the requirements of the pilgrims.
The devotees have recently expressed unhappiness over the weight discrepancies with the Laddus that are being sold over the counters and stated that staff are being careless with the matters. The ideal weight of each Laddu should be 180 gms, and the patrons have expressed that the Prasadam sold over the counters has weighed less than that on many occasions.
Despite the introduction of severe surveillance measures such as digital weighing and constant monitoring, the devotees continue to express their complaint on the shrinking Laddus.
“Now, barcoding will help detect as to who is tampering with the weight of the Laddus. Kitchen staff, support staff at the sale counters? CCTV cameras will also be installed at the counters to prevent such a malpractice” said TTD EO, Dr D Sambasiva Rao.
