Written by

Nellore’s famous annual three day festival, Rottela Panduga is here. The festival will begin from 24th of October. Rottela Panduga is usually observed by the Muslims of Nellore in the month when Muharram falls. Remembering the great martyrs whose mortal remains were buried in the ground, women in Nellore visit the sacred shrine to exchange their Rottelu (Rotis) in the Nellore tank.

Organised arrangements have been made by the district administration and the Nellore Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Waqf Board. The event will be organised at the Bara Shahid Dargah in Nellore city from the dates October 24th to 27th.

2015 marks the second year when the Rottela Panduga is celebrated as a State festival with several departments actively taking part in the festival arrangements.

More facilities are planned to be made for the lakhs of pilgrims who will come on pilgrimage for this festival. These pilgrims come from far-off places in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and AP and Telangana.

Special arrangements have been made for the pilgrims to exchange their breads by going knee-deep into the cool waters of the Swarnala Cheruvu in Nellore.
