K V Chowdary, hailing from Krishna District and the Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) is now appointed as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner. He was picked out of 203 applicants, including all 7 information commissioners, for the post of the CVC and 553 for the post of information commissioners.
Going by the RTI Act, the CVC has one chief and 10 information commissioners. K V Chowdary had proved his credibility in his previous role and is a deserving choice.
In CVC department, the term of Ex Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar ended on September 28, 2014, while vigilance commissioner JM Garg finished tenure on September 7th last year. Sources said the government had received about 130 applications for the two posts.
It is but a matter of pride that Chowdary with roots in Andhra had been indeed considered as an instant choice for the post in the midst of severe competition.
