Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) in Nellore yesterday (3 Jan 2015)
The Rs. 35-crore IITTM will boost the tourism and hospitality industry in the state. The Nellore campus is a strategic location for meeting the emerging needs of tourism and travel industry spread over the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana.
CM spoke at length on the occassion, stressing the need for an all-round cooperation. Mr Naidu affirmed that Nellore had huge potential for creating port and tourism-based industries and jobs. South coastal AP has the capability to surpass Singapore in terms of development, he expressed.
“There is only one port in Singapore. But here in Nellore region there are two ports. If the long coastline of 175 km is developed well, it will create a lot of opportunities on all fronts. Here we can create far greater infrastructure than that in Singapore,” said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu spent the entire day in Nellore, to take part in a public meeting held at the Venkatagiri Rajah’s College grounds marking the foundation stone laying for the development of Coastal Tourism Circuit and also for the Composite Regional Centre of the National Institute for Mental Handicapped at Venkatachalam.
Mr Naidu also shared details about the mega tourism circuit that is planned to be carried out with Rs. 60.7 crore funds. He said that the tourism circuit will enable development in the areas right from the Pulicat brackishwater lake on the Tamil Nadu border to the Mypadu beach near Nellore. He said the famous Swarnala Cheruvu surroundings would be beautified and developed with a budget of Rs. 2.68 crore.
Talking about the Chennai-Bengaluru corridor project, Mr. Naidu said there was a large scope to link developmental initiatives in Tirupati, Nellore and Chennai to create a tri-industrial hub in the southern region that will create tremendous scope for growth ahead.
Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma and Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot were present. Also present were AP Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and Minister for Medical and Health Kamineni Srinivasa Rao.
