There is a buzz of activity in Vijayawada, due to the ongoing movement of government offices from Hyderabad to AP. To this effect, the Krishna administration team has completed identification of residential and commercial buildings in Vijayawada and the nearby vicinity that will house future government offices.
A total of 85 buildings have been identified so far. Out of these, more than 45 are ready to be occupied, while the rest of them require minor changes to convert into office spaces. As part of the Durbar move initiative, local officials from Housing and Road & Buildings Departments went on and hunted for the commercial and residential premises in the landmarks that connect Kankipadu, Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada Urban and Gannavaram.
Five high-rises buildings, four at the Benz Circle and one on the M.G. Road are also included in the list. The officials confirmed that these building were identified after the government issued a notification to the owners, requesting them to contact the authorities for letting out their premises towards the government use. Apparently, a lot deal will be soon shifted from Hyderabad to Vijayawada.
The local officials said that various parameters have been taken into consideration while locking on the sspaces, such as distance of the building from CM’s camp office, road connectivity and amenities available for employees during the identification drive. A heavy background check on the buildings and the available parking facilities was also considered.
The owners are currently charging a rent that ranges between Rs.10 to Rs.50 per sft depending on the location and amenities available in the premises.
A report has already been submitted to the high-level committee to this effect. The committee has been constituted to identify locations and buildings, and is headed by K S Jawahar Reddy, Secretary, Panchayat Raj.
Well known premises like Medha Towers near Gannavaram airport, office of the SP on M.G. Road and a few marriage halls are also under serious consideration for the conversion into govt office spaces.
