The State Government of Andhra Pradesh plans to introduce specialized IIT Foundation Coaching to all the municipal schools from this year on. This is a concept based approach looking at enhancing the quality of education provided to the students who go to government schools every year in various parts of the state.
As per the latest data, more than 2.5 lakh students are enrolled in 1,852 municipal schools state wide. Hardly few students from municipal schools topped in IIT or any other competitive examination despite the growing number.
Plans are on to equip the budding engineers in these schools to compete for coveted entrances like that of IIT, going head to head with the students who go to the up market corporate schools. Massive goals are set to launch the summer foundation courses to prep the children for IIT and other national level competitive exams.
The courses will be initially conducted in Krishna, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Nellore districts from May 22 to June 14. The State Government will collaborate with leading institutions present to offer these courses.
Major efforts to revamp education in municipal schools:
· Target set to increase the admissions in municipal schools from 2.5 lakh to 5 lakh by 2016
· Faculty members from private institutions will conduct sessions in biology, physical science, mathematics and personality development
· Each class will have a restricted intake of 50 students, who will be short-listed by teachers and principals of the respective schools
· Efforts would be made to provide labs in every school, apart from constructing toilets and buying necessary furniture utilizing corporate social responsibility funds donated by private firms.
