Andhra Pradesh will now have a new in charge for the Coast Guard. Deputy Inspector General A.K. Harbola, has assumed the position of Coast Guard Commander for AP. The hand over was made official on Monday (21 Dec 2015), passing down from the Deputy Inspector General J.S. Sabharwal at a captivating ceremony held at the Coast Guard jetty.
The new commander of the AP Coast Guard, A.K. Harbola is a Postgraduate in physics. He is a qualified ‘Naval Communicator’ and also an alumnus of the International Maritime School of US Coast Guard, Virginia, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and National Defence College, New Delhi.
Commander Harbola has been awarded Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry by the President of India. He has commanded four Coast Guard Ships so far. He will now be responsible to affect the mandated charter of Coast Guard within Andhra Pradesh. DIG J.S. Sabharwal has proceeded to Mumbai to take over responsibilities of the Coast Guard Commander, Maharashtra.
