Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu hoisted the National Flag on 69th Independence Day today at Beach Road of Visakhapatnam. This was the first official State Independence Day event organized in the city.
The event was a grand success and scenic delight that saw great turnout of local citizens. The residents of Vizag were agog with excitement as they started arriving at the early hours of 6 AM to witness the celebration that went on with pomp.
The event was a tight security fare, with eight armed contingents along with nine unarmed ones followed by 22 tableaux in the parade that marched in sync along with Police and Navy bands.
Despite heavy rains that looked like a disruption to the event, the CM arrived at the venue on time. He hoisted the National Flag at 9 AM and received the salute from the marching troops.
The flag hoisting and salute were followed with colorful and engaging cultural programs performed by school students and locals. CM also felicitated parliamentarian and freedom fighter Sri K S Tilak after the parade. Medals were given away to the police on the occassion.
Sri N Chandrababu Naidu was personally overwhelmed with the crowd that turned out to witness the flag hoisting ceremony. He thanked the locals gathered on the Beach Road and also gave a surprise visual to the people, riding in one of the police vehicles.
