The Andhra Pradesh endowments department has flagged off a free pilgrimage scheme, Divya Darshanam, for SCs, STs and BCs in the state. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the scheme and said that this will benefit those interested in pilgrim tourism.
About 1,000 people from each of the 13 districts will be selected every year under the scheme. The beneficiaries will be taken to Tirumala, and a couple of other major temples across the state. The endowments department will fund the pilgrimage.
Year after year, Tirumala sees heavy turnout of the pilgrims to seek the blessings of Lord Venkateswara. This apart, major temples across the state fetch sizable traffic on important festivals. This initiative will give broad scale scope for the poor who often struggle to make it to the pilgrim destination due to the lack of money and resources.
