CM Speaks About Reviving AP’s Metro Rail projects

Written by

Yet another attempt was made when the CM, N Chandrababu Naidu made a fresh plea one more time to the Centre about the construction of metro rail projects in Vizag and Vijayawada.

While discussing about the need for funds to expedite and complete critical projects like Polavaram, Naidu spoke to the Prime Minister Modi and stated that a specific road map and an action plan has to be drawn and implemented for the metro rail projects in two cities.

Going back in time, the Vijayawada Metro Rail Project was envisioned in the year 2014, right at the time when a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was formed. An MoU between Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation and and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was later cancelled, post the former suggesting a Light Metro Rail (LMR) going by the suggestion coming from the central government.

The Centre said no to approval of the Vijayawada Metro Rail proposal earlier, stating that the project was financially non viable.

The Chief Minister has made it a point to bring forth the redundant Metro projects and expressed that they should be approved and executed, one more time.

It remains to be seen if the centre will finally give a nod to Naidu’s request.
