The Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri N Chandrababu Naidu had addressed a Central team on the losses incurred by the state due to heavy rain. A special team has arrived to assess the damage caused by the recent bout of heavy rains. Mr Naidu said that AP has suffered overall losses of Rs 3,759.97 crore. He has also reached out to the Centre for restoring normalcy.
Elaborating on the the damage caused due to non seasonal rains in Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts, CM stated that the rainfall was 6 to 11 times higher than the normal range.
Dissecting the figures department wise, the CM said that agriculture had incurred a loss of Rs 426.94 crore, horticulture Rs 335.27 crore, animal husbandry Rs 17.97 crore and handicrafts and textile industries Rs 4.77 crore respectively.
Water resources incurred a loss of Rs 818.29 crore, while roads and buildings stand at Rs 711.9 crore, electricity department at Rs 35.05 crore, and Panchayat Raj and Municipal and Urban Development Department Rs 589.54 crore. More than 6,507 pucca houses and 17,089 huts were damaged due to the rains, Mr Naidu said in an official release that was given out to the media yesterday.
