Britannia Agro-processing Facility Soon In Chittoor

FMCG giant Britannia Industries Limited has evinced interest in setting up an agro-processing facility in Chittoor district. Varun Berry, Managing Director, Britannia called on Chief Minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada.

During his meeting with the Chief Minister, Mr. Berry said that the company is planning to commission the phase 1 of the project in Chittoor district with an investment of Rs. 125 crore by the end of 2016.

“We want to zero in on a location which helps us serve markets in Chennai and Bengaluru,” Mr. Berry told the Chief Minister. Responding to Mr. Berry, the Chief Minister said that they can finalize Chittoor district which allows the company to serve Chennai and Bengaluru markets.

In conversation with Mr. Berry, the Chief Minister explained the advantages and opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. “We are focusing on agriculture and allied activities like Horticulture, livestock, fisheries, dairy and poultry whose estimated growth rate for 2015-16 is 24% with Rs.1.87 lakh-crore against 1.43 lakh-crore in 2014-15,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the company can also explore options in the dairy sector.

CM also affirmed that the government is working to strengthen the Self-help Groups (SHGs). “To improve dairy production, we are giving back-end subsidy on fodder cultivation. SHG women will measure the yield from each animal and the fodder cultivation will be planned according to the yield,” he explained.

Mr Naidu explained that Andhra Pradesh has the advantage in the fisheries sector, and that the state stands in the top in shrimp production and wants to lead in exports of sea-food. “Our long coast on the East, abundant water and 14 ports give us the opportunity of being the logistics hub of South East Asia,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Berry informed the Chief Minister that 75% of the company’s business comes from biscuit production while the remaining business rests in cakes, dairy and rusk. During his conversation with the Chief Minister Mr. Berry appreciated the Chief Minister’s vision for Andhra Pradesh and said that the state will become the top state within 10-15 years.
