New achievement for Visakhapatnam Port as Han Fu Star, the largest ever bulk carrier will now be operational from its base.
This would be the biggest cape vessel received by the Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited (VGCBPL). The carrier was welcomed on Friday from Richards Bay, South Africa, carrying steam coal for the brand Jindal Steel and Power Limited.
The over all length of this ship is 291.80 meters, and will be accommodated by a fully mechanized terminal at the port that is equipped to handle Cape vessels benefiting importers on account of high efficiency. This results in fast turnaround of vessel assuring low ocean freight.
There is also a heavy demand for the coal importers to use the in house port facilities at Visakhapatnam, especially the Vedanta Berth (VGCBPL) from countries like South Africa, Australia and Chile.
A fully automatic coal terminal was commissioned by VGCBL in April 2013 that received the first Cape Vessel in the outer harbor on 9th March 2014. So far, it had handled 13 million tonnes.
The Outer Harbor dredging was commenced by the Port after engaging International Seaport Dredging Ltd at a budget cost of INR 139.88 Crore. The Inner Harbor Dredging is currently on the verge of completion.
