Another landmark achievement for Bezawada. The Vijayawada division of South Central Railway has reportedly earned a revenue to the tune of Rs. 2,567 crore in the first two quarters of the current financial year. This is a great leap for the individual zone that gets a sizable bearing with railways in AP.
The reports say that out of the total revenue, Rs. 1,982 crore was from freight and Rs. 497 crore from the commuters. The information was provided by K. Venugopala Rao, Additional Divisional Railway Manager.
“There is a 13 per cent increase in the revenue earnings, as compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal,” Mr. Rao said while addressing a press conference with the media yesterday (05 Nov 2015)
Mr Rao iterated on the way Indian Railways had come out with several commuter-friendly initiatives in the recent times. He said that the all India helpline ‘138’ was now functional in Vijayawada division as well.
“A security helpline has also been launched recently. Those in distress can dial 182 to get immediate help from railway police during travel,” he said.
Vijayawada Railway Junction is also one of the only station to have five entrance gates equipped with booking counters. One of the busiest railway stations in India with nearly 250 express and 150 freight trains serving close to 50 million passengers on an yearly basis.
