AP Assembly Passes The Bill For Legislator Salaries

While the amendments to the AP Reorganization Act is in progress, other agendas are being slowly addressed by the AP Govt. The AP Assembly has passed another Bill asking for a significant hike in the salaries and provisions for the legislators yesterday.

Going by the new proposal, the AP state govt is looking at an additional budget of Rs 30,62,31,300 per year. Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu moved this Bill on behalf of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Following the legislation passed on Wednesday, forming a part of amendment to AP Payment of Salaries and Pension and Removal of Disqualifications Act 1953, the monthly salary of each legislator has been increased from Rs. 95,000 to Rs. 1.25 lakh.

The accommodation allowance has also been doubled from Rs. 25,000, while maximum pension to retired members has also been increased to Rs. 50,000. This would also be the first time that the amended legislation provides for an annual allowance of Rs. 20,000 to each member towards magazines and books.

Other amenities like Motor car/ house building advance, which is recoverable, has been doubled to Rs. 20 lakh.

While the Amenities Committee recommended a monthly salary of Rs. 1.5 lakh, the government cut it to Rs. 1.25 lakh.
