The increases focus on the animal husbandry project by the Government of Andhra Pradesh sees a great influx and a potential to provide jobs to close to 1 crore people.
The scope of the sector makes it a viable option to fuel up and become the primary sector in the state’s economy. The government had directed the officials to increase dairy, poultry and meat production by 20 % from this year. In a review meeting with the animal husbandry department, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the potential of the animal husbandry department to provide employment to one crore people.
A 3-year target is being set to bring animal husbandry and fisheries on par with agriculture and horticulture departments.
With states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat leading in milk production, the government is now actively working towards positioning Andhra Pradesh among high milk producing states. It has also been decided to hand over sheep farming units to women from S.C., S.T., B.C., Minority and DWCRA groups.
Other than this, the sheep farming was also identified as a focus area. Plans are on to set up large meat processing units, thereby generate more jobs and output with animal husbandry initiatives.
