Andhra University, the esteemed seat of education and learning scaled a new high in the country’s list of top universities. The University that was established in the year 1926 in Visakhapatnam has now been ranked as number 2 among all the State Universities and number 8 among all the top Universities in India.
The survey was conducted by the India Today Group, known as Nielsen Survey, understanding the choices of the literary groups and students communities aspiring on a quality education. Nielsen rankings assigned 50% weight-age to factual data, while the remaining 50% was assigned to perceptual data.
Andhra University has also bagged the 8th spot among all Universities in India including State, Central and Deemed Universities.
The core strength with factual data highlights University’s quality in terms of faculty, academic inputs and research publications. However, plans are underway to improve the perceptions as well.
To this effect, a project to “Reposition Andhra University (AU) among top 50 in the World” has been conceived and instituted by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, in association with the Higher Education Department.
The aim of the above said project is to propel Andhra University into international rankings and explore potential collaborations with top-ranked foreign universities. An EDB Summer Fellow was assigned the project, who spent one month assessing the ground realities at the AU campus in Visakhapatnam.
For the first time, AU was also provided the required assistance to reach out to Times Higher Education and QS Rankings to submit data to international rankings. All the major stakeholders on the campus were interviewed and surveyed to prepare an action-plan in order to transform AU into a top-ranked international university.
This apart, a partnership with National University of Singapore (NUS), as suggested by Mr. Gopinath Pillai, Ambassador-at-large for the Government of Singapore, is also being contemplated.
