Anantapur Soon To House India’s Largest Defence Facility

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) announced that it will be setting up a large defence systems integration complex at Palasamudram in Anantapur District. An investment of Rs 500 Cr will be channeled for the same over the next 3 to 4 years.

Navratna PSU BEL stated that this will the largest defence facilities in the entire India after being commissioned, spanning across an area of 900 acres.

Defence Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar will lay the foundation stone for the facility today (30th september). The event will be presided by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

“We at BEL have been continuously investing in modernization and creation of special infrastructure to cater for emerging defence business opportunities. The upcoming facility at Palasamudram is one such initiative,” SK Sharma, Chairman and MD, BEL said, while speaking to a leading newspaper daily.

“We are also strengthening our infrastructure in areas like night vision technologies and elements of multifunction radars,” he added, confirming that various new surface to air missile (SAM) programs have been proposed to be taken up by BEL.

Palasamudram facility will empower BEL to expand its missile systems business and carry out manufacturing and integration for the ongoing and upcoming projects. It is also said that BEL will have state-of-the-art infrastructure such as Assembly Hangers, Hard Stands for Radars and Weapen Integration.

It has been said that BEL wants to cater to large requirements of futuristic surface to air missile systems, missiles and associated electronic sub-systems & components by setting up a facility in Andhra Pradesh.
