The complex knee replacement procedure, Oxinium was introduced at the Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Nellore. Two patients have already been successfully operated by the surgeons.
This advanced method of knee surgery involves use of knee implants that are made of oxidized zirconium metal. This is said to have far better performance as compared to the regularly used cobalt chromium.
The Oxinium method involves using a metal that is harder as well as smoother with finer scratch resistance. The metal is also said to be long lasting with zero allergic reactions post the operation. The first two surgeries were conducted by Dr Madanmohan Reddy, chief orthopedic surgeon, along with Dr Vivek Reddy and the specialty team. The patients are said to be underway to good recovery.
