The much awaited development is here for Srikalahasti, one of the most popularly visited pilgrim sites after Tirumala. Preparations are on to kick start works on the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line, which passes through the Venkatagiri and Rapur areas in Nellore district. This line connects the upland and far-flung areas to other parts of the State.
A detailed survey will be conducted on the forest lands which will be utilized for the laying of the railway line. This will be taken up by the district administration, in association with the Forest Department and the South Central Railway (SCR).
According to the officials on duty, almost 101 hectares will now fall under the expanse of the new railway line. Reports from the survey will be submitted to the government and railways shortly. Apart from catering to the needs of people of upland areas and interior Mandals in Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts, the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti line is a way forward to boost the cement and granite exports from the state.
The new line will connect Srikalahasti, Venkatagiri, Rapur, Obulayapalli, Podili, Darsi, Gundlakamma, Vinukonda, Rompicherla, Nakerakal and Nadikudi.
“This railway line has to be developed with urgency. This will greatly help people in upland and backward areas,” Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, MP, Nellore said while speaking to the media.
