The LED revolution is fast picking momentum in Andhra Pradesh. After Vizag and Vizianagaram along with other districts that saw LED lighting in phase 1, Chittoor will also see the new dawn of low cost LED lights.
As part of the ongoing ‘Power For All’ program in the state, Chittoor district will get 19 lakh Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.
A capital investment of Rs 16.2 Cr will be made by Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) in the tail-end district through Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). This gigantic move is expected to save around 108 million units of power every year.
Confirming the above, K. Ranganatham, energy advisor to the State government, stated that the program was aimed at reducing power bills of consumers. LED also conveniently avoids peak-load power purchase for the distribution company. The new LED bulbs reduce the carbon footprint, setting a new horizon towards a ‘greener planet’.
Joint Collector Bharat N. Gupta spoke to the media and said that bulbs would be distributed at a subsidised price of Rs.10 per piece. This scheme will be implemented in all the Mandals of Chittoor district.
These LED bulbs would be of 9W, as against the 7W bulbs that were previously distributed in Anantapur and Guntur districts during the first phase. 9W bulbs offer better illumination.
The project has been officially launched today.
