GVMC which is the Greater Vishakapatnam Municipal Corporation has gone on to make an announcement that all the traffic islands in the city will be beautified. The beautification process will include fountains being provided wherever required to ensure that Vizag comes under the tag of a beautiful and “smart” city, GVMC Commissioner Praveen Kumar was quoted as saying.
The Commissioner who is playing an essential part in the progression of this work, inspected Dronamaraju Circle and CR Reddy Circle at Siripuram. This, along with the beach road were under his radar during his night rounds. He revealed that plans were on the cards to beautify all the traffic islands with colourful plants.
The Youth Hostel as well as the paintings on the walls of Matsya Darshini were inspected by him. In addition, he also suggested the provision of LED lights on the beach road and reviewed the computerised monitoring system that had the provision of switching “on” and “off” lights.
The Commissioner also ordered Superintending Engineers Ananda Rao as well as DE Varma to make provisions for the replacement of missing lights at bus shelters near The Park Hotel junction.
Also, Chief Medical Officer of Health M.S. Raju was asked to initiate special measures so that sanitation and door-to-door collection of garbage were improved.
The Assistant Director of Health, M.Damodar directed officials in the city to increase the speed of their work. This was after consultation from experts in Chennai for the further planning and development of the city. He also appreciated the work put in by the Commissioner to restore greenery post the Hudhud disaster.
He said that he hoped the city would recover its green cover before the International Fleet Review early next year. Amongst those who participated, Zonal Commissioner P. Nallanayya, Executive Engineer Ratnala Raju as well as Assistant Medical Officer of Health, Jeevan made their presence felt.
