Enticing colors, enchanting interiors, impeccable Kalamkari murals that adorn the walls and instill the priceless Andhra culture – these and many more, the new Vijayawada airport is ready to shine and make a striking impact.
The airport that was completed in a record time displays a perfect balance of culture and tech. The spacious expanses remind one of one or all of the happening international airports in the country. However, this would be the first airport that brings the essence of heritage and roots to a global layout.
The airport which was confirmed to be completed by end of December by the CM himself, is shockingly on time. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju will inaugurate the new terminal of the Vijayawada airport on January 12, that is tomorrow.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) along with Airport Director G. Madhusudhan Rao have visited the airport premises and inspected works that were nearing completion.
To cater to the increasing passenger traffic, the construction of the new airport terminal—which will act as an interim terminal before the International terminal is built—began on October 8 last year. The works are expected to be completed by January 7.
The interim terminal and the ceremonial lounge spread over 12, 999 square metres will include check-in area, arrival hall, meet and greet service staircase, aviation lounge, and baggage make up area. The lounge is spread over 3,613 square metres.
The terminal can handle up to 500 passengers at any point of time and will have 18 check-in counters.
Mr. Nani told the media that efforts were being made by the Chief Minister and Union Minister for expansion of the runway and construction of the international terminal at a cost of Rs.700 crore. Airport traffic had gone up and many international airliners were keen on starting operations.
Plus one to the visually uplifting and state of the art modern Vijayawada airport!!
