The ambiance at Ramakrishna Beach, popularly called as R K Beach is something else. As Vizag is all set to celebrate the World Tourism Day tomorrow, massive efforts have been made to make the beach comply with the theme in every sense – promote universal accessibility.
To this effect, the 2 and half long stretch of the beach has now been equipped with special ramps to enable easy access to the physically challenge. The A.P. Tourism Department has constructed ramps in collaboration with the district administration and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). The new ramp provides accessibility to the physically challenged persons by which one can get onto the footpaths on a wheelchair and move around without heavy dependency on others.
It is well known that the 30-km-long marine drive from Visakhapatnam to Bheemunipatnam makes for a mind blowing sea view. Bay of Bengal on one side and the lush green hills on the other. This view will be made more accessible to those who are specially challenged and RK Beach is just the start.
Apart from the above, the State president of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) Koduru Appala Naidu has also sought for the operation of battery-operated vehicles at tourist places. Wheelchairs can otherwise be provided if that was not possible.
The World Tourism Day celebration this year would be organized on the Beach Road, opposite Viswapriya Function Hall, on Tuesday evening. Several activities have been planned, including the cultural programs, food stalls, and stalls showcasing handicrafts.
Entry will be free at all tourist places in the city to celebrate the occasion.
