The Ministry of Power (MoP) has now cleared the long awaited proposal from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for establishment of an exclusive ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) cell/wing in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The new ECBC wing will be initially set up in Vijayawada.
The ECBC Cell is critical as it will support and monitor energy efficiency activities to achieve a saving of 40 to 50 per cent of energy in the building sector of the new capital Amaravati.
Ajay Mathur, BEE Director General informed Andhra Pradesh Government Energy Secretary Mr Ajay Jain that the cell will be funded by BEE and United Nations Development Programme, according to a press release by State Energy Conservation Mission.
Sanjay Seth, Secretary of BEE will be deputising and and supporting Andhra Pradesh in the expansion of energy efficiency activities in the building sector, particularly in Amaravati.
Mr. Jain also thanked the Government of India for having decided to establish ECBC cell in AP. Mr. Mathur had specifically requested Mr. Jain to share the tremendous success story of SECM’s LED lighting and ECBC implementation during the two-day International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Buildings’ (ICEEB 2015) that is scheduled to begin in New Delhi from December 17th.
