The coveted BRICS Summit had kicked off and the next meeting on energy efficiency will be held today in Visakhapatnam. To this effect, all the nations that form the part of BRICS will envision a plan for improved cooperation in energy efficiency. The two-day deliberation begins today. The previous session had successfully concluded in Guwahati, where the agenda was shifting of power from the west to the member countries.
India, as part of BRICS, will play an important role in presenting its efforts in the energy saving, energy efficiency. The evident highlights would be LED street lighting program and the PAT (Performance Achievement & Trade) program for industrial energy efficiency that would be discussed in Visakhapatnam.
“The first meeting of the BRICS Working Group on ‘Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency’ will be held during July 4-5, 2016. Participation from all BRICS countries, viz., Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa has been confirmed,” confirmed a statement from power ministry.
According to the statement, the BRICS countries will make presentations on steps taken in the field of energy saving and energy efficiency individually. To this effect, the Working Group on Energy Saving & Energy Efficiency will work on a strategy to develop cooperation in energy saving and energy efficiency within BRICS.
India is chairing the BRICS for 2016 and will play an active role in steering the agenda for the summit. Working on the parallel lines, the power ministry will host meetings of the Working Group and showcase energy saving initiatives in the country.
