SPB Speaks up For MSS Statue

When noted singers make a difference to the society and heritage at large, the feeling is nothing short of an overwhelm. Singing legend S P Balasubramanyam, fondly referred to as SPB, showed that it matters to respect the true icons of music, whatever way.

SPB sprung into action when he noticed the bronze statue of M S Subbulakshmi at the Poornakumbham circle in Tirupati. The singer instantly took to Facebook, expressing his views. SP Balu Garu shared as to how the statue was in shambles and ill maintained. To this, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have immediately responded, and jumped into action.

The TTD has directed an official to specially look into the matter and ensure that the statue got a face lift that it deserves.

“The strings to the taanpura she holds are broken, the shelter for the traffic constable and the pillar erected for the publicity hoarding obstruct the view. The worst part, the taanpura is used as pillar for the cables,” SPB wrote on Facebook.

The post was noticed by his followers. SPB also had to request the traffic constable at the junction to allow him to click the picture. He implored the concerned officials to take steps in order to maintain the statue of the great singer.

“It is not enough to unveil a statue. The concerned department should maintain it with devotion. Clean it at least once in a week and garland. Is this the way to celebrate the centenary of the divine soul,” SPB questioned.
