Everything changed for a state in a day’s span of time. Tamil Nadu is now reeling under a new shocking development. Sasikala Natarajan, the close friend and soul sister of late Amma Jayalalithaa is all set to become the state next Chief Minister. The reaction is nothing short of shock and amazement from all quarters.
The incidents that happened in the last one month gave out subtle hints about the possibility. Right from the prevailing public sentiment to Sasikala’s public appearances have indicated that she is likely to succeed Amma in future. There was a frosty interaction between Sasikala and Paneerselvam at the recent Conclave that was held by Indian Today. While the people cheered for their Chinnamma, the vibes indicated that Sasikala is all set to take over as the new CM someway or the other.
Things have now materialized. After being named as the party’s general secretary, Sasikala slowly took over and drew the MLA s to her side. The decision came out after an elaborate meeting of the party members today. O Paneerselvam has quit as the CM and has submitted his resignation. Sources also indicate that Sasikala will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister on February 9th.
It is also interesting that momentum picked up right after Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa Jayakumar made an announcement about her intentions to enter politics. While there is no doubt that Sasikala has closely shadowed Amma in her political sojourn and knows the inside out of the political world, questions continue on her abilities as an able administrator.
