Coffee Powder Can Be Dangerous For Health, Reveals FDA

A cup of coffee is what makes our day. This is the regular norm. Almost 3/4th of the world population is either addicted to coffee or thrives on it for everyday vigor. But did you know that powdered coffee can be extremely dangerous for your health?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had announced on Tuesday that it had sent warning letters to five leading companies that sell powdered caffeine. Their products have been found to pose a significant risk or illness to consumers.

FDA states that just 1 spoon of powdered coffee contains the amount of caffeine that is found in 28 cups of regular coffee!! In fact, as per their study, even two cups of coffee made from this powder is lethal enough to kill most adults.

“Powdered caffeine is very concentrated,” says Henry Spiller, director of Central Ohio Poison Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He affirmed that most people are so comfortable with the effects of coffee and soda that they fail to understand that the amount they ingest is just milligrams.

The amount of caffeine in a teaspoon of powder coffee can vary across various caffeine products, the FDA noted. A teaspoon of some powdered products can have almost 5 grams of caffeine. In comparison, a cup of coffee has about 65 to 100 milligrams of caffeine.

At that level, 1 teaspoon of the powder contains as much caffeine as 50 to 75 cups of coffee!!
