Veteran Tamil actress Manorama, who also captivated Telugu audiences passed away yesterday due to multiple organ failure. She was 78.
Manorama was well known for her powerful portrayals as a character artist in Tamil cinema. Most of the dubbing films that released in Telugu got her closer to the audience this part of the world. Her performance as a late cobbler’s wife in Kamal Haasan’s Bharateeyudu will be well remembered by the Telugu movie goers, along with many others.
Fondly referred to as ‘Aachi’, Manorama was a multi faceted personality. She was also an accomplished singer. She acted with some of the greatest legends in Tamil like MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, NTR, Jayalalithaa, Kamal Haasan, Nagesh and Superstar Rajinikanth.
Not many know that she went up the ladder with acting while pursuing her career in singing under various music composers. Manorama had also sung for the Madras Mozart A R Rahman in the film May Matham.
Well known for her crude diction that spoke the dialects of Thanjavur and Madurai, Manorama was an efforless performer. She would belt out the lines like a cannon while showcasing some adorable facial expressions. She acted in over 1,000 films and sang hundreds of songs in Tamil.
Tamil Cinema will sure miss this incredible actress. Rest in Peace, Aachi.
