Well know actor and comedian of Tollywood, Kolluri Chidambara Rao alias Kallu Chidambaram bid a sad farewell to the world today. Kallu died at a private hospital in Vizag post suffering a respiratory ailment. He was 67.
Survived by a wife and four children, Kallu was known widely for his remarkable squint eyes that evoked healthy laughter in the audience. Introduced to the film celluloid by writer and actor Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Kallu also won the prestigious Nandi award for his role in one of the films. Kallu appeared and acted in close to 300 films during his time with Tollywood. Some of his notable films were mostly Dr Rajendra Prasad starrers, such as Aa Okkati Adakku, April 1 Vidudhala and others like Jamba Lakidi Pamba, Govinda Govinda etc.
Not many know that Kallu was also modestly employed as an Assistant Engineer with the Vizag Port Trust. That was the main reason why the actor acted in most films that were shot in and around Visakhapatnam.
Passionate about drama and theater arts, Kallu Chidambaram acted in more than 30 plays on stage. He also found a federation of artists called Sakala Kalakarula Samakhya in 2008, the foundation that looked after the welfare and livelihood of the artists.
