The heli-tourism project in the port city of Vizag has been the talk of the town for quite a long time now. It seems that the project is all set to take off soon, what with the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) formulating plans to relook into the MoU that it had signed with Sky Choppers Logistics Private Limited (SCLPL) that is supposed to take care of the operational services.
This MoU was signed by VUDA and SCLPL in the year 2016 with a plan to launch the project in October 2016. However, the project got delayed due to a number of reasons.
According to the deal that was signed, the heli-tourism services were to be operated on various routes which included VUDA Park to Bheemili, VUDA Park to Kailasagiri and VUDA Park to Araku Valley. Additionally, plans were also on for operating sea planes between Vijayawada and Vizag as well as Vijayawada and Kakinada with the landing area being near Mangamaripeta area. However, these plans too hit the dust.
Sources reveal that VUDA was all set to cancel the prior agreement and sign a fresh one with Pawan Hans. They had even gone ahead and constructed 3 rest rooms and a helipad in the VUDA Park to facilitate the project.
VUDA officials are now thinking of revising the old agreement and signing a new one with SCLPL. According to a senior official of VUDA, the project was delayed because of the delay in acquiring necessary permission from the Aviation Authorities. He added that since everything is now in place and SCLPL is also interested in launching the project, they will soon be signing a new MoU. He stated that they are aiming at completing and launching the project by May, 2018.
