Sainik School, Korukonda – The Royal Seat of Education

The Sainik schools were formed in 1961 to train merit students for entry into NDA or National Defence Academy , Khadakvasla, Pune & Indian Naval Academy to train them as officers in Indian Military. They are managed by Sainik Schools Society governed by Ministry of Defence. These schools fill the bridge between regional and class imbalance among the officer cadre. Selected students are given the overall personality development training to mold them as officers in Defence services .

In Andhra Pradesh, Sainik School , Korukonda is in Vijayanagarm district. The place was gifted by Maharaja Vijayanand Gajapathi Raj in 1961. Royal family original Crest and Motto were adopted by the school as a tribute.

Boys are admitted in VI, IX and XI classes through entrance examination. Merit based scholorships are also offered by Ministry of Defence. Admission test will be conducted on 1st July every year. Every years 600 students are sent to NDA from here.

There are many notable alumni from here. Duvvuri Subbarao, Ex Governor, RBI, Cherukuri Rajkumar, Spokesperson, CPI , Malli Mastan Babu, famous mountaineer.
