On 12th June, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu declared Eruvaka Pournami as a state festival. He said that Ganga Puja and saplings plantation drives would also be added to the list of state festivals. He went on to direct the district collectors to ensure that from next year these festivals be organized and celebrated with the same excitement and fervor as Sankranti.
According to CBN, celebrating these festivals will not only help in preserving the heritage of the state but will also be encouragement enough for the youngsters to work towards conservation of nature. During a teleconference with the collectors that was held by him to conduct a review on kharif preparedness, he said that according to the predictions of Indian Meteorological Department, by June 19th, the whole state will be hit by the monsoons. He added that owing to this, they have gone against the schedule and released water for Godavari delta.
He also said that the babus should all be ready to begin the disbursement of input subsidies for the farmers, as the funds for these would be released on 14th June. The engineers of the water resources department were directed to get water from Sileru as this would encourage the farmers in the Krishna Delta to take up agriculture yet again.
The rural development department officials were also directed by him to immediately clear all the bills that are pending under Neeru Pragati. At the occasion he said that a lot of work under Neeru Pragati has been completed with an estimated expense of about INR 314.60 crores.
He also directed the district collectors to book people under PD Act if they were found misusing the micro-nutrients and fertilizers that are distributed to the farmers.
