Quitting is simply not in her DNA. Pudota Neelima, the young girl with roots from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh has proved that nothing is impossible with sheer determination. Neelima has become the first woman from AP to climb the great Mount Everest, covering the 8,848 m high altitude.
A professional Bharatnatyam dancer and a multi-talented engineering girl, Neelima has all it takes to be called as the astute student of learning. She is many people packed into one – martial art expert in Kalaripattu, polyglot, German language expert and a yoga professional. Neelima’s love and quest for mountaineering made her leave a promising job with a leading IT firm to set out on the mission Mt Everest.
This achievement had not come easy to the gutsy young woman. Only last year, Neelima was at the Everest base camp during the devastating April 2015 Nepal earthquake. The shattering experience did not weaken her. Instead, Neelima made up mind even stronger to achieve her goal.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri N Chandrababu Naidu was impressed with the young girl’s courage and focus. Mr Naidu had instructed the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) to sponsor her Rs 15 Lakh in order to accomplish her mission. Neelima began training more seriously ever since. Help also came by from the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) and other key players.
Neelima’s family has been a massive driving force of support all the while. Her father, P Showraiah and mother, Dr K Papa, have been her constant pillars of strength, enabling her to accomplish her mission.
Pudota Neelima sets a great example to the youngsters of these times. Her rare achievement will inspire a million others who would have been dreaming to climb the Everest but have been inhibiting themselves. To dream big and to make the same happen requires immense focus, faith and preparedness. Three cheers to our state champion.
