In order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the implementation of various projects, the Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society’s (APIS) administrative control has been transferred to the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication. This department is under the control of Minister of Information Technology of the State, Nara Lokesh.
Till date, the department was controlled by the General Administration Department aka GAD, which was a part of Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu’s portfolio.
Initially, the APIS was controlled by the Department of IT, E and C. However, it was later transferred to GAD on the request of the planning department. Following the latest decision, it will now be headed by Nara Lokesh and its control will now fall under his department. This society is a rather novel idea and the only one in India. It was designed with the aim to enhance the students’ skills and encourage them to mastermind innovations. Under this program, innovation centers were established in various schools and colleges in the state.
According to an important official, the re-transfer of the department was ordered because it seems that the department of IT, E and C is best to encourage innovation. He added that with this move, ideas would be executed at a faster pace and decisions made quickly. Last week, in order to give directions to the concerned officials to take necessary actions, a government order GO Ms 66 was released.
