Yes, Chinese handset giant Xiaomi is taking things next level with the manufacturing of phones in Andhra Pradesh. After partnering with Foxconn to set up a second manufacturing unit in Sri City, Xiaomi is all set to manufacture a phone every second in the facility.
This is a huge achievement for both Xiaomi as well as Andhra. “While I cannot disclose the exact capacity, I can tell you that we will be able to manufacture one phone per second whenever the lines are running. The two factories combined will provide employment to about 5,000 people, 90 per cent of which are women,” Xiaomi India Head Manu Jain said while speaking to press on the matter.
The kind of massive leap will make Xiaomi meet over 95 per cent of its demand in India operating from the two facilities in Sri City
On a parallel note, Xiaomi will go on with importing of accessories, ecosystem products and its premium product, Mi5 from China.
Going by the research by a leading marketing firm, Xiaomi has a 10.7 per cent share of the Indian market, leading ahead and beating Samsung, over 25 per cent share by the end of December quarter.
As per Jain, the smartphone market in India will grow from 110 million units per annum to 200 million plus units, in the next three to five years. Xiaomi’s latest RedMi 4A is doing extremely well in the global market and will also be added to the existing line of manufacture at Sri City.
