The renowned artisans from Andhra Pradesh will now have a spectacular responsibility to carry through. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is deputing five national award-winning handicraft artisans to promote Indian handicrafts in Eastern Europe in order to enter the Russian market.
The names include famous artisan from Pedana of Krishna district, K Gangadhar.
To this effect, the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), which is an apex body, will help the artisans exhibit their creations and deliver live demonstrations during the four-day ‘Gift Expo-Autumn 2016’. This is scheduled to commence from September 20th in Moscow.
The MCI empowers artisans to explore global market for handicrafts through the Market Access Initiative Scheme. Five artisans have been selected for the expo this year, accordingly.
Some of the outstanding works that will be displayed at the expo include wooden block making and works by President of India awardee K. Gangadhar, ‘Patta chitra’ art from Odisha, weaves from Bhuj, brass/metal engravings from Delhi, Gyasar brocade from Varanasi etc.
