Andhra Pradesh wishes a very happy Bathukamma festival to the state of Telangana. Bathukamma, a traditional floral festival celebrated in Telangana comes every year on Mahalaya Amavasya. Bathukamma festival is celebrated with astute observance and pomp for nine days during Navarathris.

Saddula Bathukamma and Pedda Bathukamma

Bathukamma comprises of two celebrations that span over the nine days. Saddula Bathukamma and Pedda Bathukamma. The festival is later followed by Boddemma, a 7 day festival.

Bathukamma – A Colorful Floral Stack

Typically a Bathukamma is made out of colorful floral stack, with different seasonal flowers that are offered to the Goddess. The flowers that are used are Gunugu (Celosia), Tangedu (Casia), Banti (Marigold), Chamanthi (Chrysanthemum), Taamera (Lotus), Gummadi Puvvu (Cucurbita), Dosa Puvvu (Cucumis), Katla (Ipomoea), Beera Puvvu (Luffa), Gaddi Puvvu (Tridax) and Vaamu Puvvu (Ajwain)

Bathukamma-1 AP Wishes Happy Bathukamma To Telangana

It is said that Bathukamma originated during the rule of Chola dynasty. This was the time when King Dharmagada was reigning South India. After lot of prayers and worship to Goddess Lakshmi, he had a baby girl with the queen. This baby girl is said to have survived many life threatening accidents. Hence, her parents named her Bathukamma (woman of life)

Bathukamma is celebrated by the little girls of Telangana. They pray the Goddess to give them good health, great husbands in the future and complete well being of the family. Married women also worship for the health and goodness of their husbands, children and families. Women and girls dress up in vivid attires and deck themselves with nice jewellery while stepping out to pray with their Bathukammas.
