The much in bid Bhavanapadu Port Project of Andhra Pradesh is all the more likely to be won by the famous Adani Group, going by the latest reports.
Adani was shortlisted along with two other companies that had backed out in the final stage. The tender was floated by department of infratsructure and investment, in order to zero in on the port developer who will work on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer model.
So far, the department has received complete technical and financial bid only from the Adanis, as per the internal sources. Adani was shortlisted along with Gangavaram Port and Navayuga of CVR Group, which runs the Krishnapatnam Port
“We are awaiting the Union home ministry clearance, which is mandatory, before proceeding to open the lone bid received from Adani,” Ajain Jain, principal secretary, department of Infrastructure and Investment said while speaking to a leading business magazine.
The final winner will be declared if the respective bid will be found complying with the bid parameters.
Bhavanapadu port, which is located in Srikakulam is aptly positioned to attract prospects from the potential bidders. Interestingly, the port will work hugely in favor of the Adanis, if they win the bid. Located at close proximity to Odisha and Chattisgarh, the port will fuel Adani’s coal and logistics business.
As per the tender details, the project developer will also get 2,500 acres of land along with the port for the development of logistics infrastructure and the port-based industries. The first phase of the project includes five berths along with other infrastructure.
One of the key players in the sub continent, Adani also owns other prime port in Gujarat – Mundra. Once finalised, Adani has also expressed interest in developing a port cum industrial part project in Srikakulam, and this was expressed by the group eight years ago.
The long run plan of AP state government to develop major seaports and industrial corridors along the state coastline will depend on critical aspects such as selecting the right companies and developers. Adani fits the bill to propel development of such gamut.
